Method
Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a large bowl, mix together the flour, diced butter, and ice water until a dough forms. Divide the dough in half, shape each half into a disk, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
Assembling the Pie
- Roll out one dough disk until it fits your pie pan; ensure the edges hang slightly over the sides.
- In another bowl, toss the sliced apples with sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and flour. Pour the mixture into the prepared crust, and dot with butter.
- Roll out the second dough disk, place it over the apple filling, crimp the edges together, and make slits in the top for steam to escape.
Baking
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes. Then reduce the temperature to 350°F (175°C) and bake for an additional 35-45 minutes.
- The pie is done when apples are soft and the crust is golden brown.
Serving
- Allow the pie to cool before slicing for easier serving.
Notes
Store leftover pie in the refrigerator for up to 4 days or freeze for up to 3 months. Reheat in a 350°F (175°C) oven.
