Ingredients

Dough Ingredients
  • 500 g bread flour provides the perfect structure
  • 300 ml warm water activates the yeast properly
  • 10 g salt balances the flavor
  • 7 g dry yeast for that wonderful rise
  • 1 pinch sugar to help activate the yeast
  • optional seeds (like sesame or poppy) for texture and flavor

Method

Preparation
  1. In a bowl, combine warm water and a pinch of sugar, then sprinkle the yeast on top. Let it sit for about 10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt, then add the yeast mixture. Stir until a rough dough forms.
  3. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until it is smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Punch down the dough and divide it into equal pieces. Shape each piece into a small ball and place them on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
  6. Cover the shaped rolls and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  7. As they rise, preheat your oven to 220°C (428°F).
  8. Bake the rolls for 15-20 minutes until golden brown. Let them cool on a wire rack.

Notes

Use the right flour for best results and consider adding steam to the oven during baking for a crustier exterior. Feel free to experiment with various toppings before baking.
