Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease and flour an 8 or 9-inch round cake pan.
  3. In a mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
  4. Incorporate the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually mix in the flour, baking powder, and salt alternately with the milk until smooth. Avoid overmixing.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared pan, spreading it evenly.
Baking
  1. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  2. While the cake is still warm, sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly on top and gently press them in.
  3. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and dust with powdered sugar before serving. Leftovers should be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
