Ingredients

Main ingredients
  • 4 pieces bratwurst sausages Use high-quality bratwurst for the best flavor.
  • 1 cup tomato ketchup Substitute with homemade tomato sauce for a healthier option.
  • 1 tbsp curry powder
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tbsp white vinegar
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • optional cayenne pepper Add for extra heat.
  • optional garlic powder Add according to personal preference.

Method

Cooking the Bratwurst
  1. Start by heating a grill or frying pan over medium heat. Cook the bratwursts until they’re beautifully browned and fully cooked, around 6-8 minutes on each side.
Preparing the Curry Sauce
  1. While the bratwursts are cooking, combine the ketchup, curry powder, smoked paprika, white vinegar, and sugar in a small pot. Heat this mixture over medium heat, stirring occasionally until it thickens slightly, about 5-7 minutes.
Serving
  1. Once fully cooked, let the bratwurst rest for a moment, then slice them into bite-sized pieces. Arrange the sliced bratwurst on a plate and generously drizzle the curry ketchup sauce over them.
  2. Serve your currywurst hot alongside crispy fries or soft rolls.

Notes

Leftover currywurst can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. For longer storage, freeze the sausage and sauce separately for up to 2 months.
