  • 2 cups chicken broth Use low-sodium if preferred.
  • 1 cup heavy cream Consider substituting for Greek yogurt to lighten.
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil For sautéing onions.
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh thyme leaves for garnish (optional) Adds freshness before serving.

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure an even bake.
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat and sauté the caramelized onions to release their sweet aroma.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked orzo, shredded chicken, caramelized onions, chicken broth, heavy cream, salt, and pepper, and stir until evenly coated.
  4. Pour the mixture into a baking dish, spreading it out evenly, and top with shredded cheese.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes until the top is golden brown and bubbly.
  6. Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before garnishing with fresh thyme leaves.

Notes

For storage, keep leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days or freeze for up to 3 months. Reheat in the oven at 350°F to maintain texture.
