  • 1 lb ground beef and pork mix Use high-quality meat for best flavor.
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs Gluten-free breadcrumbs can be used as a substitution.
  • 1 large egg Acts as a binding agent.
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped Sauté for best flavor.
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard Adds a nice kick.
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped Use fresh for best flavor.
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp paprika (optional) For added flavor.
  • Vegetable oil for frying Use enough for frying the patties.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a small pan, heat a tablespoon of oil over medium heat. Add the finely chopped onions and sauté them until they become soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the ground meat, breadcrumbs, egg, sautéed onions, Dijon mustard, chopped parsley, salt, pepper, and optional paprika until just blended.
  3. Take a handful of the mixture and shape it into patties about 3/4 inch thick, handling the mixture gently.
Cooking
  1. In a large pan, heat about 1/4 inch of vegetable oil over medium heat until ready.
  2. Carefully place the patties in the hot oil and fry them for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and cooked through.
  3. Once cooked, remove the patties from the pan and place them on paper towels to drain any excess oil.
Serving
  1. Serve the Frikadellen warm with sides like creamy potato salad or fresh green salad, and enjoy!

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days or freeze for up to three months. For added flavor, consider adding Worcestershire sauce and use fresh breadcrumbs made from stale bread.
