  • 4 pieces bratwursts Choose high-quality bratwursts made with natural ingredients.
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil For searing the bratwursts.
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced Caramelize for flavor.
  • 2 cups sauerkraut Drain if necessary.
  • 2 pieces apples, cored and sliced Add sweetness and flavor balance.
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar Enhances flavor of apples and sauerkraut.
  • 1/2 tsp caraway seeds
  • 2 pieces bay leaves
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional) Adds visual appeal.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the bratwursts and cook for about 5 minutes, turning occasionally until they are nicely browned.
  3. Remove the bratwursts and set them aside.
  4. In the same skillet, add the sliced onions and sauté for about 5 minutes until they are soft and lightly caramelized.
  5. Add sauerkraut, apple slices, brown sugar, caraway seeds, and bay leaves to the skillet.
  6. Season with salt and pepper to your liking and cook for about 3 minutes.
  7. Return the browned bratwursts to the skillet, pressing them gently into the mixture.
  8. Cover the skillet and reduce heat to low, letting everything simmer for about 20-25 minutes.
  9. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.

Notes

Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. For meal prepping, the flavors deepen after a day in the fridge.
