  • 1 sheet Blätterteig High-quality puff pastry recommended.
  • 1.5 cups geriebener Schweizer oder Emmental Käse Use a mixture of cheeses for more flavor.
  • 1 large Ei, geschlagen For egg wash.
  • 0.5 teaspoon Paprika (optional) For added flavor.
  • to taste Sesamkörner (optional) For extra crunch.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Roll out the puff pastry until it’s evenly thin. Be careful not to tear it.
  2. Brush the entire surface of the dough with the beaten egg for a golden finish.
  3. Generously sprinkle the grated Swiss or Emmental cheese over the egg-washed dough.
  4. Sprinkle a bit of paprika and sesame seeds on top for added flavor.
  5. Carefully cut the dough into strips about an inch wide and twist each strip slightly.
  6. Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F) and bake for 15 to 18 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Let the Käsestangen cool for a few moments before serving.

Notes

Store leftover Käsestangen in an airtight container for up to three days. If frozen, they can last for a month. To reheat, place in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for about 10 minutes.
