Preparation
- In a large bowl, combine warm milk, warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit until frothy, about 5 minutes.
- Gradually add the flour and salt to the yeast mixture. Stir until a soft dough forms.
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead until smooth, about 8-10 minutes.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm place until it doubles in size, about 1 hour.
- Punch down the dough and divide it into 8 equal portions. Shape each portion into flat discs, about 1/2 inch thick.
Cooking
- In a deep skillet, heat the oil over medium heat until hot but not smoking.
- Carefully place each dough disc in hot oil. Fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes on each side.
Topping
- Mix the chopped garlic with 2 tablespoons of water and brush the mixture onto the hot Lángos.
- Spread sour cream generously on top, and sprinkle with grated cheese.
Serving
- Serve warm for the best flavor and texture.
Notes
Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days, or freeze for up to 2 months. Reheat in a preheated oven at 350°F for about 10 minutes.
