Ingredients

Dough Ingredients
  • 2.5 cups 2 ½ cups (315g) all-purpose flour For dough base
  • 0.25 cup ¼ cup (50g) sugar For sweetness
  • 0.5 tsp ½ tsp salt
  • 0.5 cup ½ cup (120ml) warm milk Must be warm, not hot
  • 2 tbsp 2 tbsp (30g) melted butter
  • 1 packet 1 packet (7g) instant yeast Ensure it's fresh
  • 1 large 1 egg Room temperature
  • 0.5 tsp ½ tsp vanilla extract
Crumb Topping Ingredients
  • 1.5 cups 1 ½ cups (190g) all-purpose flour
  • 0.75 cup ¾ cup (150g) white granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 0.5 cup ½ cup (115g) cold butter, cubed Keep cold for crumb texture

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, combine the warm milk, sugar, and instant yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. Add 2 ½ cups of flour, salt, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract to the yeast mixture. Mix until a sticky dough forms, then knead it on a lightly floured surface until smooth and elastic, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Place your dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.
Crumb Topping
  1. In a separate bowl, mix 1 ½ cups of flour, ¾ cup of sugar, and 1 tsp of cinnamon. Add the cold, cubed butter and work it into the dry ingredients until crumbly.
Assembly and Baking
  1. Once the dough has risen, roll it out on a floured surface to fit into a greased baking pan, about 1 inch thick.
  2. Spread the dough evenly into the pan and sprinkle the crumb mixture generously on top.
  3. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
