Ingredients

Main ingredients
  • 1 cup honey the main flavor base – provides sweetness and moisture
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour keeps the cake light and airy
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar adds depth and richness
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder for that chocolatey flavor
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda for leavening
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon classic warm spice note
  • 1 teaspoon ground cloves brings a sweet warmth
  • 3 large eggs binds the ingredients together
  • 1/2 cup milk ensures the cake stays moist
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted adds richness

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the honey, brown sugar, and melted butter. Whisk until smooth and well blended.
  3. Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing thoroughly after each addition. Then, stir in the milk until the mixture is well combined.
  4. In another bowl, mix the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, cinnamon, and cloves. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the honey mixture, stirring until just combined.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan, smoothing it out evenly with a spatula.
Baking
  1. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. The cake should spring back when lightly pressed.
  2. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For best results, use high-quality honey and avoid overmixing to keep the cake light. The cake can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
